My new favorite cycling jersey is from adidas. It’s stylish, fits well, feels comfy, and moves well with me. It breathes extremely well, so that I don’t get an urge to rip it off half way through a ride. Which is a good thing. With some notable exceptions (such as Henry Cavill), the world does not become a more beautiful place when men over 40 go topless. But as long as I keep this shirt on, it’s a pretty good look. I love the beautiful bright blue color, and the adidas reflective stripes add style. And it’s also available in some other colors, too.
This adidas cycling jersey has four pockets. The three at the back are slip-in. And the one of the side is a zip-up, to keep your keys safe. The pockets are deep enough to be useful, which is essential in a cycling jersey. It’s remarkable how many things you need to take with you to make a long bike ride fun. Snacks, keys, phone, snacks. The pockets run a little narrow, given that the jersey is so form-fitting. But they are functional for all of my (many) needs.
Sizing and Fit
I usually wear a Small, but ordered a Medium because cycling clothes are almost always too small. The medium fits me very comfortably. I could actually have squeezed into a Small – and I find that surprisingly accurate for cycling gear. The fit is closer to a relaxed fit than a racing fit, which is just fine by me. Barring a miracle, there are no cycling races in my future. (Although now that I am on Zwift, and they have a D category … never say never. I just have to train for about another five years – and I can do that.)
Although it’s not a racing fit, it remains a snug fit. At the same time, it basically moves with me, so that I forget I have it on. I really like that. Like most cycling jerseys, it has a lower-back gripper that keeps it in place.
This cycling jersey is made of at least 70% recycled materials, in keeping with the adidas philosophy. The material is called AEROREADY, which is designed to keep you dry and comfortable. For me, it works extremely well.
Pair It Up
This cycling shirt will work perfectly with any pair of tights or cycling shorts. Check out the adidas collection of men’s tights here.
Bottom Line on the adidas Cycling Jersey
My medium sized jersey weighs in at just 5.9 ounces. It works perfectly as a cycling jersey, and looks good too. Based on this jersey, I would love to see a lot more cycling jerseys from adidas. That said, this is an excellent start.
