The first New Westminster Grand Prix was a huge success. This was the first time the BC Superweek included an event on the hills of New Westminster! The biggest winner was the city and the people in it. Founded in 1858, the City of New Westminster is the oldest city in Western Canada, but it has never looked like it did today, with its streets full of colorful cyclists and enthusiastic spectators and volunteers.
BC Superweek is upon us again, offering 8 exciting bike races over 10 days to watch in Greater Vancouver. It has become one of the most prestigious pro-cycling events in North America, with a total prize purse of more than $120,000. It includes events for Women, Men, and Youth, and offers a stunning spectacle of cycling skills in the usually busy urban streets of Greater Vancouver. This year features a brand new event, the New West Grand Prix, to be raced on the steep hills of New Westminster! This post lists all of the BC Superweek 2017 events, and features photos from last year’s events.
The Gastown Grand Prix (sponsored by Global Relay) is the richest criterium in North America. This year the winning woman and the winning man each took away $12,000. The annual Gastown Grand Prix is held on the cobbled streets of downtown Vancouver, with a short course and tight curves making for a very challenging race. This year the women’s race was won by the oldest cyclist in the field!
