This Sugoi Hotshot Cycling Jersey is an essential layer for winter cycling. Although it’s lightweight, it keeps you warm and cozy on the coldest cycling days. It’s very breathable, and the soft fleece interior is very comforting against your skin.
I have had my Sugoi Jersey for a few years now, and it’s still as good as the day I bought it – after many, many laundry cycles. On the practical side, my Sugoi Jersey keeps me warm, even when the temperature is below freezing. Sugoi prides themselves on top quality products, as you can see in this video.
If the temperature is a few degrees above freezing, I wear just this jersey and a light, waterproof jacket (See my review of the 7 best waterproof jackets, here.)

The Sugoi Jersey is Breathable AND Warm
I don’t get all sweaty in my Sugoi Jersey because it wicks sweat from the skin to the outer surface, where it dries quickly due to evaporation. At the same time, it is made of a FinoTherm fabric that ensures both breathability and warmth. I know from experience that it is hard to get breathability and warmth in the same garment. For that reason, I also use this jersey as a middle layer on hikes when the weather is extremely cold – and even just throw it on to take the dogs out for a quick walk last thing at night!
Pockets in the Sugoi Jersey
The Sugoi Jersey has three elastic back pockets, which expand to take a lot of things – keys, cell phone and snacks are easily accommodated. The elasticated hem keeps it snugly down around your hips, without feeling tight. And the elastic cuffs prevent the sleeves from riding up – you never want a strip of your wrists exposed to the wind when you’re cycling.
The Sugoi Jersey also LOOKS really sharp!
Sugoi has an interesting history. In 1987 two Vancouver people, David Hollands, a bicycle racer, and Carol Prantner, a fashion student, started the company in a basement. At first they just made bike shorts. They focused on innovation and excellence, and soon earned a cult following among cyclists who wanted top performing clothes. Today the company employs more than 250 people and offers hundreds of different technical garments and accessories, sold and respected internationally. If you haven’t worn Sugoi, you’ve definitely seen it – for example, being worn by Olympic athletes and Ironman winners! Great success story for a start-up Canadian company!
Bottom Line on the Sugoi Hotshot Jersey
This Sugoi Jersey is worth every cent. I have tried merino wool jerseys, and they are not as warm and soft as this 100% polyester jersey. Like many cycling jerseys, this Sugoi Jersey fits small and snug. If you are between medium and large, definitely buy a large.
