I have found my new favorite bike to work pants – the adidas Ultimate 365 Golf Pants, which are of course actually golf pants, not cycling pants. I bought them for golf, and they are perfect for that. But I was delighted to find that they triple up as dress pants and cycling pants. Perfect timing, because since losing a lot of weight, the only dress pants I own make me look like a clown. All I needed to complete the look was a rope to hold them up. Now, that problem is solved.
adidas Ultimate 365 Golf Pants: Perfect Examples of Transitional Clothing
I came across the term “transitional clothing” the other day. Apparently, it means clothing that you can use for multiple purposes, transitioning seamlessly from activity to activity without having to find a phone booth to change in. Well, we have been into that concept for decades. And with the demise of phone booths, the need is even more urgent!
Seriously, it just makes so much sense to be able to arrive at work on your bike and immediately be able to sit down at your desk. No changing required! (That is, assuming you are not drenched in sweat.) Or cycle to a local restaurant, and not walk in looking like a lost Tour de France rider. (OK, that was never going to happen to me, but you know what I mean.)
These adidas Ultimate 365 golf pants get our seal of approval because they are perfect transitional pants. They are soft, cool, breathable and very flexible, so of course, I can cycle anywhere in them. But they look good enough to wear to the opera (providing I wear dress shoes instead of hiking shoes!) In the photos I am wearing my Terrex Swift R3 hiking shoes, as these are nice and grippy for cycling. Review coming soon!
Comfort of the adidas Ultimate 365 Golf Pants
Comfort is always my first consideration in clothing. These pants are lightweight and comfortable, as well as soft. They feel a bit like soft silk gloves, but on my legs.
Flexibility for Cycling, Golfing, and Living
Second, these pants are super flexible, making them ideal for pounding the pedals as you cycle to work, business meetings, or a restaurant. Regular dress pants are usually less than comfortable for any kind of athletic activity, but these are perfect. They are designed to have a four-way stretch for athletic golfing, and you can feel that the minute you put them on.
I have always aspired to find dress pants that I can bike in, but until now, I could never find them. Probably the reason is that these pants are specifically designed for athletic activity, as they are golf pants. However, they look so good that they can easily pass for dress pants.
Narrow Cut of the adidas Ultimate 365 Golf Pants
Third, these pants have a pleasingly narrow cut, so I don’t have to worry about them getting caught in my bike chain. I do have leg bands to prevent this, but they are unnecessary with these pants. And bright yellow leg bands would completely ruin the look!
Great Looks
The styling on these pants is so sleek and sophisticated, that they look great both on and off the bike. It’s a simple, classic cut.
Mrs. Average Joe Cyclist can be a little hard to please, but even she gives my adidas golf pants two big thumbs up. In her words: “They are lovely trousers.” That’s all I need to hear to know that I have somehow managed to get my look right. It does NOT happen often, and it is kind of excellent when it does! Maggie is so inspired that she is looking for her own golf pants from the golf clothes for women.

These golf pants are made of 100% recycled materials, which is impressive, and important to us. The fabric is a durable twill, intended to be used for golfing all year round. Or cycling!
UV Protection
Whether you are on a bike or a golf course, UV protection is always good, and these pants have UV 50+ built right in.
Lots of Pockets
I find it hard to love pants that don’t have pockets – lots of pockets. Luckily, these pants have pockets front and back, so there is plenty of space for everything I need to keep handy.

Maggie and I both love these pants. I love them because they feel great, and she loves them because they look great. And we both give them 100% approval for being transitional pants that you can wear pretty much anywhere. Most importantly, on your bike!
