Looking for inspiration today? Check out this near impossible bike ride! Montreal cyclist and Youtuber Charles Ouimet has made his very first feature film. This video features Ouimet ascending the world’s most difficult gravel road, the Mauna Kea volcano in Hawaii. And you can watch it right now on YouTube:
In his first film, the elite Canadian cyclist documented his ascent by bike on the world’s most difficult gravel road. At 28, he embarked on an extraordinary adventure by setting himself the goal of climbing the Mauna Kea volcano in Hawaii, also known as The Impossible Route. This makes him the third person in the world to achieve this feat after The Vegan Cyclist and Jeremiah Bishop.
The paved road from sea level to the top of the volcano, with an altitude of 4,200 meters (13779 feet) and a total distance of 68 km (42 miles), is considered one of the ten most difficult roads in the world. Charles opted for the alternative gravel road in order to add 600 m (1969 feet) of elevation and 41 kilometers (25 miles), for a grand total of 109 km (68 miles) and 4,800 m (15748 feet) of elevation.
As a former professional downhill skateboarder (longboard) racing on the world cup from 2012-2016, Charles Ouimet discovered cycling in 2016 and has been passionate about it ever since. Now an elite Quebec cyclist, he started his YouTube channel in 2020 to share his adventures and experiences as well as to document his unconventional journey that led him to become a full-time cyclist, without joining the pro peloton.
