Not everyone wants to cycle in the rain and snow. Luckily, there’s an app for that! Actually there are many apps for indoor cycling. Indoor cycling apps are an ideal way to maintain cycling fitness when you cannot safely cycle outside. And Garmin recently announced it will be linking up with 3 new partners who will be working with Garmin Connect to provide options for cyclists who want to optimize their indoor cycling training. Garmin refers to these third party apps as their new Indoor Cycling API partners.
Indoor Cycling App 1: TrainerRoad

The first new Indoor Cycling API partner announced by Garmin is TrainerRoad. The basic idea of TrainerRoad is to be able to easily import your activity files from this 3rd-party indoor cycling app into your Garmin Connect account. This enables you to maintain continuity in managing and viewing your training data through the winter (assuming you usually use Garmin Connect).
We all expect these integrations to be automatic these days, and TrainerRoad has that. Once you have linked your TrainerRoad account to your Garmin Connect account, all workout activities done indoors will automatically be imported into your Garmin Connect account.
TrainerRoad aims to make power-based training simple and accessible to all cyclists, including indoor cycliss. It will provide a custom training solution for you, regardless of your current level of fitness or experience. Check it out here!
Indoor Cycling App 2: The Sufferfest

This integration between the Sufferfest and Garmin Connect will also allow users to seamlessly import their cycling files created by Sufferfest, an indoor cycling application, directly into their Garmin Connect account. This is of course helpful if you want to maintain continuous cycling training records year round.
This information from Garmin explains what The Sufferfest app does:
“The Sufferfest is a comprehensive training app for time-crunched cyclists and triathletes. Users get unlimited streaming or offline access to a massive library of structured cycling, running, and triathlon workouts, as well as advanced fitness testing, 20 Yoga for Cyclists videos, and a 10-week Mental Training Program. Every workout is designed by elite coaches and sports scientists to provide maximum benefit with minimum time, combining killer soundtracks, engaging storylines, and exclusive footage of the world’s biggest professional races. The app also includes a full suite of structured training plans for road, mountain, triathlon, and cyclocross, developed in partnership with APEX Coaching. Connection to smart trainers and other fitness devices allows athletes to train to specific targets, analyze performance data, and share with platforms like Garmin Connect, Strava and Training Peaks. Available for iOS, macOS and Windows. “

Garmin has not yet announced the third partner. I will update this post when they do!
If you are planning to maintain your cycling fitness through a long and possibly even snowy winter, one of these indoor cycling apps might be the way to go.
