Yesterday I reported that – contrary to what Mike Brascia of Brascia’s Tailors alleges – there is plenty of car parking on Hornby. Today I found even MORE parking on Hornby Street. This almost embarrassing abundance of car parking is ALL at Hornby and Dunsmuir – which happen to be the two separate bike routes that have caused such an outcry from business people about LACK of parking.
I took a look at the parking garage that is directly underneath Brascia’s Tailors. I found the following:
- 2 motorcycles
- 9 cars
- 18 bikes
- 19 empty parking spaces

Notice the lack of cars and the big empty parking spaces … and the fact that the bike cage is crammed to capacity. And note that there were exactly TWICE as many bikes as cars!
My conclusions
- There is actually a surplus of parking for cars at Hornby and Dunsmuir. This is somewhat surprising, given that one of the key complaints from business people was that they would lose parking space due to the separate bike lanes.
- The only thing that is lacking at Hornby and Dunsmuir is sufficient safe parking space for bikes. Perhaps one of the empty parking spots underneath Brascia’s Tailors could be converted into an extra bike cage?
