If you want to enjoy downtown Vancouver, join the throngs of cyclists on the separated bike lanes, including Hornby Street and Dunsmuir Street. I took the photo below during a quiet time of the day – at rush hour, there are a LOT of cyclists on the Dunsmuir Street separated bike route.

Mobi Bike Share in Vancouver
There are many bike rental shops in Vancouver. You can choose a short-term rental on a Mobi bike share bike. With this system, you pay a daily rate of less than $10, and then you can do unlimited short rides of up to 30 minutes for free. This is ideal for getting from tourist spot to tourist spot, or from a restaurant to your hotel. This video shows you how that works.
Renting a Bike from a Bike Rentals Shop in Vancouver
If you want to do some serious cycling, you can rent a bike from a rentals shop, where you can often also sign up for a guided bike tour. Either way, you are set to have a great bike ride. Bear in mind that BC laws require wearing bike helmets at all times. All Vancouver bike rentals shops will supply bike helmets; most will also supply locks. On a personal note, I have to add that I got a great photo of a family (brother, sister, dad) cycling on the Hornby Street separated bike lane in downtown Vancouver – and later realized from the color of the bikes that they were City Cycle rental bikes. I had a moment of great happiness, thinking that I live in a city where people can rent bikes and then immediately be on family-friendly, separated bike routes – even though they are in the heart of the downtown city! Awesome! Here is the photo:

I hope that you and your family will also have a great time renting bikes and cycling in Vancouver!
