Customer Reviews from Amazon
“Read even if buying a new bike! I bought this book, as an e-book, out of curiosity — and decided to buy the paper copy as well. There is a lot of information, regarding gear quality, bike quality, frame quality, tires, wheels, etc., that the average bike rider (like me) doesn’t know. And most likely, most of the bike riders in the U.S. could be considered “average”. They just buy a bike, because the salesman was good, or the bike was available in a big box store. Through reading this book, I was able to determine what gear-quality and frame-type I wanted, then choose the bike I wanted, which had that quality gear and frame. It is rather nice to know these things before you buy the bike. If you are thinking of buying a used bike, the book covers not only gear type and quality, frame materials and types, wheels, but also what bike brand-names are desirable, which ones not, etc. I would like to see this author take on the subject of buying used “folders”, (Montague, Dahon, Pacific, etc.) I’m sure this could be the topic of another entire book. I wish I had a copy of this book a long, long time ago.”
“Easy to follow and very informative! This is a really well put together book. For someone who isn’t super knowledgeable about bikes and doesn’t want to pay for a new one, I’d really recommend this book. The section on bike components was especially interesting to me. Thanks, Joe!”
There are so many online market places selling so many different bikes.
Some are bargains, others are rip-offs.

Why I Wrote this Guide
A while ago I wrote a blog post about buying bikes on Craigslist. To my surprise, it was my most popular post ever. Not only that, but I was flooded with emails asking me questions about aspects I had not covered in the post. Answering all the emails was exhausting! So I had the idea of putting all this information in one book, so that readers would have all the answers at their fingertips. The result is this Guide, which covers every question I have ever been asked, and also contains bonus information as well. And with the printed version, I was able to put together a version that is even more informative because it is beautifully and has great illustrations, along with color tab coding to help you find your way around quickly when you’re hot on the trail of the perfect bike!

As buyer Mike Peters said:
“I just used [this book] to save myself $200 (!) because I realized the asking price for a mountain bike was way too high and I showed the guy my reseach and he … dropped the price!”
Another buyer, Pat Simpson, said:
“This is definitely the best $3.99 I have spent all year – outstanding value for money. Highly recommended – if you are thinking of buying a bike, don’t even think twice, just buy this book and benefit from it.”
