We were happy to receive this news about an organization that makes it possible for people with disabilities to participate in sports activities. The Adventures Beyond Barriers Foundation (ABBF) is a not-for-profit based in Pune, India. This organization promotes inclusivity through adaptive adventure and outdoor sport activities for people with and without disabilities.

ABBF aims to increase visibility for people with disabilities by promoting an environment of openness, sensitivity, and empathy. They work with all kinds of disabilities, and the people they work with currently participate in marathons, tandem cycling, scuba diving, paragliding, and mountaineering. Tandem cycling is of course a way to enable people with limited or no sight to enjoy the exhilaration of riding a bike!

Recently, ABBF successfully hosted its third edition of India’s only inclusive tandem cycling event. The event is known as M2K: Manali to Khardung La. In this event, a group of 17 cyclists, including amputees, blind people, cancer survivors, and able-bodied individuals, made their way to the top of the highest motorable road in the world. By using cycling as a tool to create an inclusive space and provide equal opportunity, M2K is a platform for people to discover new perspectives, build empathy, forge life-long bonds, and shatter myths and stereotypes about Persons with Disability (PwDs).
