Looking for the best gifts for cyclists? Here’s our list of 7 of the best gifts for cyclists. This list is for you if you have a special cyclist in your life – a parent, a spouse, a child, a best friend – and you want to find them a luxury cycling gift. Price tags on these gifts range from around $50 to over $300. None of them is cheap, but each is a very special, high quality gift for a cyclist.
Garmin recently updated their flagship bike computer, coming up with this premium bike computer that boasts vastly improved battery life. This is likely the best bike computer in the world, and would make a perfect gift for a very serious cyclist. For the holiday season they have this wonderful Garmin Edge 1030 gift bundle, which includes speed and cadence monitors, and a heart-rate monitor chest strap.
You can read about the upgrades to this bike computer in my post comparing the Garmin Edge 1030 vs 1000.
The Two Wheel Gear Classic 2.0 Garment Pannier is probably the most stylish, premium cycling pannier on the planet. It is ideal if the cyclist you love has an executive job, and also does a lot of air travel. The pannier doubles up as sleek travel luggage, being designed to fit carry-on air travel luggage requirements for most major airlines.
One day when we finally do our cycling tour around the Netherlands, these panniers are all the luggage we will need, for both the plane trip and the bike tour. In the meantime, Maggie finds her Two Wheel Gear Classic 2.0 Garment Pannier perfect for her lifestyle as an executive who likes to bike to work, but still needs to look like a boss when she gets there.
It IS possible to buy rain pants for under ten bucks, but why would you want to? Especially for someone you love? Showers Pass makes some of the best rainwear in the world. These are top quality rain pants for a really good price. They will keep your loved one or significant other at least half dry on rainy bike rides, and he or she will bless you for it. Good rain pants … $60 … Staying dry … priceless!
There are a lot of great Garmin Edge bike computers, and I have written a lot about them. For example, the new and great Garmin Edge 520 is considered by many reviewers to be one of the greatest bike computer upgrades ever made. So why am I talking about the Garmin Edge 25? Well, simply because it is the smallest bike computer in the world that is compatible with GPS, and because it combines an incredible number of features in one super-tiny, discreet device. You can read a full comparison of the Garmin Edge 25 vs 520 here.
There is not much that this tiny, high quality bike computer cannot do, even when compared to its much more expensive big brothers. It’s an excellent bike computer for the price.
Note that despite the relatively low price, none of these bike lights would count as a “cheap gift” – they are all rock solid high quality bike lights from reputable manufacturers. They are NOT cheap garbage lights that have been reviewed by several hundred “unbiased reviewers who received a free light.”
Note: these lights are not ALWAYS under $100 – so if they have gone up by the time you read this, please don’t write me an angry email! At the time of writing, they are all priced well under $100, and are all great value for the money.
The Garmin Varia Vision is the ultimate luxury gift for cyclists: consider this high tech bike training gadget if you happen to love a very athletic cyclist who spends a lot of time on cycle training. Basically the Garmin Varia Vision is a tiny device that attaches to a cyclist’s cycling glasses and enables her or him to read cycling metrics from their other high tech devices without ever taking their eyes off the road. It’s a HUD (Heads Up Device) for serious cyclists.
The lucky cyclist must already own a Garmin Edge bike computer, preferably a high end one, such as the Garmin Edge 520 or the Garmin Edge 1000. You can read all about the Garmin Varia Vision here.
Bike lights are progressing as fast as other technology, and there’s a brave new world of bike lights out there. Smart bike lights are especially exciting.
What are smart bike lights? Basically, bike lights that react to the environment. For example, smart rear bike lights will get brighter when the cyclist is braking, just like car rear lights do. They will also flash faster when cars approach, to catch the attention of motorist. Plus, the Gamin smart rear lights function automatically as turn signals when the cyclist is following a route on their bike computer. The Garmin smart front bike lights will project further when the bike speeds up, because this is when the cyclist needs to see further. Smart bike lights are great safety features, and a whole lot of fun too.
The cyclist must already own a Garmin Edge bike computer, preferably a high end Garmin Edge 1030 or 820 1000 (incidentally, the top of the range Garmin Edge 1000 bike computer has been upgraded to the 1030, so the previously top of the range 1000 is deeply discounted right now).
